asset managementOperational Asset Management of a Watermain Network
Background
- A municipality wanted to rank and prioritize all the pipe segments within their entire watermain network.
- The objective was to evaluate the consistency and urgency of their watermain capital projects.
Approach & Scope of Work
- 24,000 pipe sections were surveyed within the GIS database.
- Data for all pipe segments were organized into attributes of condition, performance, and criticality. Each attribute was comprised of common measurements such as: break history, soil conditions, proximity to hospitals, and planned development within the area leading to undersized pipes. All data was combined into a single GIS data-base.
- A priority action number (PAN) was created for each watermain pipe segment.
- Our proprietary machine learning was run within GIS to access the data-base. The algorithm was trained to replicate expert opinion and industry best practices to be able automate the selection of pipes based on their PAN for rehabilitation or replacement.
Outcome
- Our operational asset management software adds consistency and defensibility to your capital project decisions.
- Our algorithm can help your utility save money by automating industry best practices, and optimizing long term decisions about the order in which pipes need to be staged into your capital works programs.
